Kumbakonam, February 13, 2016: The celebrations for the Khumbakonam Mahamaham 2016 began today by lighting the Cycle Pure Akhand Agarbathi. The Agarbathi was lit by Thirupanandhal Kasi Thirumanam Adhibhar, on behalf of Dharumapura Guru Maha Sannidhanam.

Commenting on the event, Mr. Arjun Ranga, Managing Director, Cycle Pure Agarbathies said, “We feel honoured to have been given an opportunity to be a part of this auspicious festival. Associations like these are a reflection of our philosophy of fostering a sense of respect, reverence and adulation.”

The exclusive Akhand Agarbathi created by Cycle Pure Agarbathies, world’s largest incense stick manufacturer, is of 6 feet length and 70 mm width. The life size incense stick weighs 2.5 kgs and is expected to burn for more than 24 hours depending upon the temperature, humidity and other weather conditions. Made using a mixture of several exclusive natural and nature identical materials, the incense stick spreads floral aroma up to a long distance from the burning point.

Apart from spreading the spirit of devotion, Cycle Pure Agarbathies have set up facilities to make the festival a plastics free one. They will be providing the devotees with paper bags to carry their pooja essentials

One of the most pious Hindu festivals, Kumbakonam Mahamaham is celebrated once in 12 years. This time the event falls on February 13th and will go on till 22nd, 2016 attracting devotees in large numbers. The festival occurs when the sun is in the Zodiacal sign of Aquarius (Khumbha), Jupiter transists Leo (Simha) and the Moon is in conjunction with the constellation Maham. It is  believed that the holy stream like Ganges, Yamuna, Sarasvati, Sarayu, Godavari, Mahanadi, Narmada, Pavoshnl and Kaveri are mixed together in Mahamaham tank and hence taking bath in it would get rid of all sins. This year around 65 lakh numbers of devotees are expected to attend the event.
